Abba released a new album which I had absolutely no idea about, I thought they only had their old hit songs. I understand why people don't like Abba, but I used to be one of these people. Hopefully, I don't get hate for this, because they have actually grown on me. There was actually an Abba cover band at forever red, and the songs were so fun to dance to. I have never watched any of the mama mia movies, but I knew about their songs because they are so classic and popular you don't have to have watched the movies to know about their songs. I also did not know that ABBA is an acronym for the different first letters of the band's first name. I am just now realizing that I only really knew of this band, but don't know much about them. Their songs seem very cheesy 80's synths like the guys in the podcast episode mentioned. This is why many people don't like them, the sounds in their songs could come off as obnoxious and don't fit into some people's music taste. If you focus on the vocals, you start to notice the interplay, and how the vocals sync in that contrasting band way. There are chant themes in a lot of the Abba songs for the intro, followed by the major and minor feeling of the chord progression. This makes it feel like there are two versions playing off of the minor and major sounds. Orchestral sounds are the vibe here in most of the songs, mixed with the rock chords playing another crucial part. A lot of the sounds, major and minor, orchestral and rock, don't go together! But somehow they do here, and the melodies are catchy and are like earworms that you can't escape.
