I Shot The Sheriff - Eric Clapton

This song is very interesting to me in the way that it differs from the "I Shot The Sheriff" Song by Bob Marley.  I am very familiar with this song but by Bob Marley because we listen to a lot of reggae music back in Hawaii (Where I'm From).   A lot of people know about Bob Marley on the mainland but I grew up listening to reggae because my family raised us on reggae.  Anyway, this song is a lot lower in pitch and slower in tempo, I believe.  When listening to Eric's version and then knowing Bob's version, these are the two major differences that stood out to me.  I would also say that Bob Marley's "I Shot The Sheriff" version is a lot more intense and passionate when it comes to the tone of singing.  Eric Clapton's version of the song sounds a lot more laid back and less passionate when listening to the tone of singing.  Now knowing the two different versions of this song, I don't know if I'm biased but I still like Bob Marley's version better.  I also like how in Bob's version, there is a lot more use of background singers, used to enhance the main singer.  There is background singers in Eric's version but not as much as Bob's. Eric Clapton – “I Shot The Sheriff” Live | Society Of Rock

  1. Hi Kili, I really like your blog. I agree with you, this version is different from the Bob Marley's version. Personally, I prefer Bob Marley's version. I think that his voice fits more with the music than Eric Clapton's voice, even if he has a good voice. It's so great that you're from Hawaii, so cool!
