St. Louis Blues
St. Louis Blues
The song "St. Louis Blues" is sung by Bessie Smith with Louis Armstrong. I knew about Louis Armstrong before I knew about Louis Armstrong. His song "What a Wonderful World" was in Toy Story and I didn't know it was him singing.
This song is very slow and has a blues feel to it. It isn't upbeat or danceable, or if anything it would be a slow dance. I feel like the target audience would be older people. I feel like older people listen to slower songs, and younger people like faster pace, more upbeat song type.
I thought that Louis Armstrong's voice would appear in this song, but it doesn't. Instead, the music in the background gives the song a sad feeling. It makes me think of a grumpy old man. The way the sad music and the tone of voice being used in the song interact with each other well because the two matches. The sad tone of voice and the sad tone of music go together well to give the song the vibe it does. If the music in the background was happy and the tone of voice was sad, it wouldn't quite match if that makes sense.
Kili, I love the way you describe this song. I love the connection with Louis Armstrong and Toy Story. I like how you talk about the generation and the music difference on what we like. I love that you talked about a grumpy old man because I used to work at a care center and we listened to music like this allllll the time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your first comments in your blog. I believe that many of us knew Louis Armstrong before we knew Louis Armstrong! His voice is so deep, soothing, and I have to agree, it's kind of like an old man's voice! The song "St. Louis Blues" had very well matching rhythms, and it related well to the people listening at the time to his songs.
