After the ball

 After the Ball

After the ball is a song that makes me think of the ball scene in cinderella with the guy with the monocle.  After listening to this song a couple of times, I realized that there were parts in the song where the woman would stop singing and talk about the story.  While this part of the song is going on, the waltz instrumental music is still going on in the background for you to follow.  So, she changes up the tone, but the background sounds of the music stay the same.

I feel too, as though the music and the lyrics interact with each other pretty well because of how the style matches.  The main lyric "After the Ball" and the instrumental aspect match.  This is because I can imagine people dancing to this song at an actual ball.

This song is about an uncle telling his niece why he never got married because he saw his woman kissing another man at the ball.  Then years later, the woman died, and he found out that the man was her brother.  So the story of which the song is telling is kind of sad but the upbeat waltz tone to it makes it easy for people to dance to.

  1. I totally know what you mean when you say that the music and the lyrics interact with each other. I've mostly heard this type of music and lyric combination in stage plays, and this song gave me total operatic vibes. While listening I could imagine a ballroom set piece along with all kinds of different lighting and stage placement nuances.

  2. That is very interesting that you made comparisons to the movie Cinderella from this song. Though I haven't listened to the song myself the name alone gives me Cinderella vibes as well. It is interesting how the song is upbeat and maybe one that people could dance to while at the same time telling a sort of tragic story describing how a man saw his girl kissing another dude.

  3. I thought that the way you connected Cinderella to the song was really cool because I didn't see it like that but after I read that it was interesting. I think also that because this song has such an interesting story it makes this song memorable and therefore when people used to dance to it they would recognize this song.
